Billionaire Elon Musk participated in a telephone conversation between Ukraine’s leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US President-elect Donald Trump.
The information was confirmed by a member of the Ukrainian presidency to the France Presse agency (AFP).
Another high-level Ukrainian source told AFP that he “passed the phone” to the owner of the X network, who then spoke to Zelenskyy.
“Trump gave him [a Musk] the phone, they were together somewhere”, reveals this source, noting that “the President [ucraniano] thanked him for Starlinks [os sistemas de ligação por satélite fornecidos pelo milionário à Ucrânia]”.
“They spoke briefly. But the main conversation, of course, was with Trump”, added the same source.
Trump e Zelenskyy “didn’t really discuss anything substantialit was a conversation to greet each other”, also noted the aforementioned source.
Zelenskyy has already described the dialogue with the American politician as having been productive, but added that he cannot foresee that “specific actions he will take“.
This past week, Vladimir Putin, President of Russia, opened the door to dialogue with Trump to discuss a peace agreement in Ukraine. But political analysts emphasize that this is why, after promising to end the war during the election campaign.
Trump has been critical of US financial and military support for Ukraine to confront the Russian invasion and has said that would end the war in 24 hoursbut without ever explaining how to do it.
Before his election, he also cast uncertainty over his commitment to European NATO alliesmost of which are partners of Ukraine.
As for Elon Musk, he played an unprecedented role in Donald Trump’s campaign, spending more than 110 million dollars (102 million euros) of his fortune to help elect the New York tycoon.
The owner of the X network is expected to join , but the precise contours of his role have not yet been revealed.
