Attack left at least 2,750 people injured and killed 9, including Hassan Nasrallah, leader of the Hezbollah group
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said this Sunday (Nov 10, 2024) that he authorized the explosion of pagers belonging to the leader of the extremist group Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah. The attack took place on September 27 in Lebanon, killing 9 people and leaving at least 2,750 injured.
The action was confirmed by Omer Dostri, the prime minister’s spokesman. According to the newspaper Times of Israelthe revelation was made during a meeting of the Council of Ministers.
The decision to continue with the attack contradicted the opinion of military figures, including former minister Yoav Gallant. He went for Netanyahu last Wednesday (Nov 6) due to a “crisis of confidence”.
The attack began to be planned in 2022, before the Hamas group’s offensive against Israel on October 7, 2023. Mossad agents, Israeli intelligence, were infiltrated into Hezbollah.
After the explosions, a report from New York Times that Israel had created a shell company to produce pagers sent to Lebanon.
On the day of the pager attack, the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) did not comment. Hezbollah suspected attempted espionage using cell phones.
The explosions took place in the southern suburbs of Beirut and in regions in the south and west of the country. Iran’s ambassador to Lebanon, Mojtaba Amani, was slightly injured.
