The party will hold a meeting this Tuesday (12) to debate whether the party maintains or joins the bloc supporting (Republicanos-PB), .
The topic will be the main debated at the party’s weekly meeting, in which there is the expectation of already having a response to the PSD’s request so that the party proportion is maintained in the definitions of spaces on the board of directors and committees.
According to the accounts of PSD members, the party would have the sixth request on the table, that is, the fourth secretariat. It would also maintain the Chamber’s Internal Affairs Department, two permanent committees — including Mines and Energy — and would have the presidency of the CMO (Mixed Budget Committee) in 2026.
Based on this definition, the party will debate whether or not to maintain Brito’s candidacy. According to members of the PSD, most of the group defends that the leader of the party remains in the dispute. In this group’s assessment, if Brito withdraws his name, “the election is over.”
On the other hand, the party leader indicated to party colleagues that he needs to take negotiations on maintaining the spaces that the PSD currently occupies in the Chamber to the bench so that they can take the option into consideration at Tuesday’s meeting. The gesture is important so that, later on, everyone shares responsibility for a decision that could represent some harm to the bench in the House.
The choice to debate this Tuesday also takes into account the timing of the electoral process. If Brito’s name is maintained, the PSD leader will need time to campaign, even more so with the —e that brings together the , including MDB, PP, Podemos, PV, PC do B, PDT, PRD and PSB, in addition of the PSDB-Cidadania federation. In Brito’s favor is the fact that the vote is secret, which leaves room for possible “betrayals”.
