In the near future, food prices will be influenced mainly by factors such as threats to the Black Sea food transport routes by Russia, as well as unpredictable weather. This is increasingly affected by climate change.
World food prices rose for the third month in a row in October 2024 and reached the highest level since April 2023. The increase in the prices of almost all staple foods, except meat, contributed to this. Data from the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) showed this.
The sugar price index rose by 3.3%, to its highest level in seven months amid lingering concerns over Brazil’s 2024/25 production outlook following a prolonged period of dry weather.
Dairy prices rose 1.9% to the highest since January 2023, led by cheese and butter prices. Only meat prices fell slightly by 0.3% in October, with pork prices the biggest decliners, while beef prices rose due to increased demand.
We mostly deal with butter. Among the readers who sent a comparison of butter prices in Slovakia and abroad to the Koktejl editors also included Miloš. We didn’t have America here yet! “US Butter Price – Ohio – October 2024,” he wrote alongside his shot from the store. A 453-gram butter in a box behind a large puddle costs $3.99 (€3.72), a 227-gram butter $3.35 (€3.13). You can find the PHOTO in the gallery below the article.
