Staff at Chester Zoo in the UK have released thousands of marsh floating spiders (Dolomedes plantarius, striped recluse).
This is reported by The Sun.
This species is said to have had “the largest mating season in recorded history”. Currently, the number of breeding females has reached 10 thousand, but this number may increase. Representatives of this species can grow up to the size of a human palm. Dolomedes plantarius are able to run on the surface of the water to catch their prey. Their legs are covered with small hairs that capture the slightest fluctuations of the water surface, which allows them to actively hunt.
In August, the town of Belov complained of an invasion of tarantulas. Large, furry arthropods have been found everywhere: in yards, garages, porches, and even apartments.
