On and off the field, nervousness took over the confrontation between Vitória and Corinthians, in the 33rd round of the Brazilian Championship. There were several mistakes made by players from both teams that made the confrontation with many possibilities for red-black and black-and-white. After Hugo Souza failed to pass the ball, Alerrandro scored Leão’s goal in the match. Still in the first stage, Yuri Alberto equalized for Timão. In the second half, Memphis Depay turned around and gave the visitors three points.

With the 2-1 defeat, Leão continues with 38 points in Series A and loses one place, now occupying 13th place in the competition. The red-black team could still lose a position in the round if Criciúma wins the match against Cruzeiro. Even after having their streak of victories halted, Thiago Carpini’s men will have Data-Fifa to rest and return to the field on the 20th, when they face Criciúma, at Heriberto Hülse.

On Saturday afternoon, Vitória fans saw six changes compared to Leão’s last game. Suspended, Lucas Esteves and Willian Oliveira gave way to Willlean Lepo (improvised on the left) and Luan. Behind the wheel, Machado won the dispute with Ryller. Coming off a good start, defender Edu replaced Neris and Carlos Eduardo once again appeared among the starters, in addition to the return of Gustavo Mosquito.

With half of the team modified, the ball rolled onto the Barradão pitch with the match starting as expected. The two teams tried to have possession and build the game, but were infected by a nervous atmosphere due to the importance of the match. However, it was Vitória who were more successful in putting pressure on their opponents and forcing mistakes early in the match.

It was through the pressure on the ball that Thiago Carpini’s team managed to ease Barradão’s mood. In the eighth minute, Hugo Souza received a setback and tried to trigger Gustavo Henrique, but the goalkeeper’s right foot caught on the pitch and the ball was free for Alerrandro to push into the back of the net.

The course of the first stage was marked by many fouls, yellow cards and nervousness. Both teams started to hit a lot of balls, which made the game lose its quality. The São Paulo team, even behind on the scoreboard, found themselves in the confrontation and reached a draw after consolidating themselves with possession.

The teams returned from the locker rooms with just one change. Thiago Carpini removed the injured Willlean Lepo to bring in PK. As a result, Vitória now had a left flank without a player standing. At Timão, Breno Bidon replaced the yellow José Martínez.

Despite the modification of parts, Leão’s biggest change was his posture on the field. With 15 minutes of rest for the final stage, the red and blacks once again repeated the performance shown at the beginning of the game.

Just as happened in the first stage, Vitória declined physically and Corinthians took advantage of the home team’s decline to turn the score around. At 24, Memphis received a beautiful throw from Garro between the red and black defensive line and displaced goalkeeper Lucas Arcanjo.

After the turnaround, the visitors changed their pieces and closed in to hold on to the score. In response, Carpini even tried to oxygenate the team, but the reserves did little to help in the final minutes of the match. The final whistle signaled a defeat suffered and the winning streak interrupted.
