Augusta Herényiová-Starostová, one of the most remarkable prima ballerinas of the Ballet of the Slovak National Theater (SND), died on Monday in Bratislava at the age of 94. TASR was informed about this by SND press secretary Izabela Pažítková.
Augusta Herényiová-Starostová belonged to a generation the first Slovak soloists, graduates of Ella Fuchsová-Lehotská’s private school. She worked in the CIS since 1947from in 1950 as a soloist and in the year 1977 happened ballet master and choreographer’s assistant. She remained faithful to the first ballet scene 37 years. She danced alongside important soloists such as Jozef Zajko, Vladimír Marek, Zoltán Nagy, Ján Haľama, Titus Pomšár and others.
She lived with dance even after her active career ended. At the age of 80, she performed in James Kudelka’s ballet Four Seasons. Ten years ago, she played the role of a grandmother in a children’s ballet From fairy tale to fairy tale. “Despite my old age, never she was not absent at any premiere or ballet gala. Her last visit was in 2020 gala performance of Swan Lake on occasion the 80th birthday of her colleague and friend Ján Haľa,” commented Pažitková.
Augusta Herényiová was born May 6, 1930 in Bratislava. She is an award winner For excellent work (1960), the title Meritorious Artist (1966), the Literary Fund’s Lifetime Achievement Award (1995). In 2015, she took over from the hands of President Andrej Kiska the high state award of Pribin’s cross, 1st class.
