Gabigol, one of Flamengo’s current generation idols, announced his departure from the team. The player confirmed that he will not renew his contract with the club due to disappointment with the board. The statement was made after winning the Copa do Brasil on Sunday afternoon (10).

“They shook my hand, my father’s, my family’s and then things ended up happening that I really didn’t like. I always found out about things through podcasts, never in person”, he complained.

“I’m going to enjoy this moment until December 31st. Now I want to enjoy it a lot [a vitória]. It was an incredible passage. I love the players and the fans very much”, he declared. According to TV Globo, the player signed a contract with Cruzeiro.

Flamengo wins Copa do Brasil 2024

Flamengo beat Atlético-MG again this Sunday, 1-0, at Arena MRV, in Belo Horizonte. In the first match, in Rio, the team had already won 3-1. This is the fifth title in the team’s history. The other achievements were in 1990, 2006, 2013 and 2022.

The achievement is also Filipe Luís’s first as a coach. The title adds another trophy to the following awards: two Brasileirão (2019 and 2020), two Libertadores (2019 and 2022), two Supercups (2020 and 2021), one Recopa Sul-Americana (2020), two Cariocas (2020 and 2021) and a Copa do Brasil (2022) which he won as a player for Flamengo.

Flamengo and Atlético-MG will face each other again in the Brasileirão on Wednesday (13), at 8pm, at Maracanã, in Rio.
