Bolsonaro’s ally, Oscar Rodrigues (PL) says that there is no communism in Brazil and that the place will be called Praça da Bible
An ally of the former president (PL), the elected mayor of Sobral (CE), (União Brasil), said that he will change the name of Praça de Cuba to Praça da Bible when he takes over the city’s mayorship, in 2025. in 2004, the site houses a statue of the Cuban poet José Marti, a symbol of the Caribbean country’s independence.
“What does Sobral have to do with Cuba? Maybe there isn’t even anyone from Sobral who knows Cuba. So why Cuba? Cuba is a communist country and we, Brazilians, do not have communism here in this country”, he declared to Green Seas TVyes Rede Globo.
According to Rodrigues, the square was “an invention of a former mayor there”. At the time of its inauguration, the city was commanded by Cid Gomes.
The next mayor of Sobral the place will be called Praça da Bible.
“And I want to do precisely an antithesis, I want to do something opposite, because communism is totally contrary to democracy and what the Bible preaches is democracy”, he declared.
