The CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation) released this Tuesday (12) the Brazilian football calendar for 2025 with new features.
For the first time, the Brazilian Championship will be played over ten months, starting at the end of March, in order to accommodate the Club World Cup in June, with the interruption of the national tournament during the period.
Palmeiras, Flamengo and Fluminense are already classified for the World Cup organized by FIFA (International Football Federation), which will be held in the United States. The winner of the Copa Libertadores final, played on the 30th between Botafogo and Atlético-MG, also guarantees a place in the competition.
The Brazilian Championship will also be paused during FIFA Dates, when there are games between teams in the World Cup qualifiers or friendlies.
Thus, the Brazilian Championship will start on March 29th, ending on December 21st. In 2024, the competition started on April 13th and ends on December 8th.
The decision will also result in an anticipation for the states. According to the CBF, the forecast is that the state competitions will begin on January 12th, ending on March 26th.
In 2024, the Campeonato Paulista was held between January 21st and April 7th.
The FPF (São Paulo Football Federation) brings together at its headquarters in São Paulo this Tuesday the 16 clubs competing for A1 in 2025 to draw the groups. The meeting should also be used for participants to ratify the start date of the state championship.
“With a lot of dialogue, we managed to create a better calendar for clubs, federations, athletes, managers and fans of Brazilian football. We discussed extensively with the Federations and the National Club Commission, which represents 124 clubs that compete in the four series of the Brazilian Championship, and we count with the support of these institutions to move forward”, declared the president of the CBF, Ednaldo Rodrigues.
