The Public Security Committee (CSP) of the Senate approved, this Tuesday (12), an invitation for the Minister of Justice and Public Security, Ricardo Lewandowski, and the secretaries of Public Security of São Paulo, Guilherme Derrite, and the Rio de Janeiro, Victor dos Santos, provide clarifications on actions to combat organized crime. The public hearing is scheduled for December 3rd.
The initiative to call Lewandowski came from senator Sérgio Moro (União-PR), who presented a request after a series of criminal actions at Guarulhos International Airport.
In the most recent case, Antônio Vinicius Lopes Gritzbach, a whistleblower for a criminal faction, was executed with rifle shots as he left the airport, also hitting app driver Celso Araujo Sampaio de Novais, who died. Although the crime occurred outside the airport, the Federal Police decided to open an investigation, while the São Paulo Civil Police continue with investigations.
Another case involved the murder of conveyor belt operator Arisson Moreira Júnior, killed by the same faction after blocking suitcases with drugs in the terminal.
Lewandowski had already committed to attending the Senate in a conversation with the president of the commission, Jorge Kajuru (PSB-GO), which allowed the summons to become an invitation.
“We want to politely listen to the minister to find out about the proposals and actions of the Ministry of Justice in the face of organized crime. Unfortunately, making a comparison here, in the previous government the actions were much more forceful, whether during my period at the Ministry of Justice or afterwards. Today we are not seeing these initiatives”, stated Sérgio Moro.
The invitation to the Secretary of Public Security of São Paulo was a suggestion by Kajuru, while the presence of the secretary of Rio de Janeiro was proposed by Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ).
“São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro are the sounding board for Public Security in the country. A regrettable episode happened in Rio in which drug traffickers in Cidade Alta simply shot at vehicles passing along Avenida Brasil, bringing great terror to the entire population. I agree that there has to be this type of public hearing to have some alignment”, added Flávio Bolsonaro.
The hearing promises to bring together authorities to discuss measures against organized crime at a time of growing tension and concern about public safety in large urban centers.
