In the last episode of Love is in the meadowviewers learned that at the age of just 21. It was cutaneous Ewing’s sarcoma which he was diagnosed with shortly after his stay on the farm, at Valentin. The young 27-year-old farmer returned to this totally upsetting event with Purepeople.comalso discussing his reactions but also the progress of the filming and Flavie’s state today.
You started a relationship with Flavie thanks to Love is in the meadow but very quickly, you learned that she had cancer. How did you react?
I have had tragedies and I have always recovered more or less easily. So, I just told myself that I would be there to support him. It’s normal that things are stirring, it’s still bad news, it’s still a problem and unfortunately there are some people who can’t cope with these health concerns. The word cancer is normal to be upsetting but there are treatments, you have to go for it and you have to live.
Your story was so young when your illness was diagnosed, you could have wanted to stop everything. Has this crossed your mind?
Oh no, I didn’t hesitate at all.
How did the rest of the filming go after this news was announced?
We had only stayed at the farm and the rest played out differently. Production called every week and every two weeks to get news and see how things were going. And then we were lucky, Flavie was fine, not too weakened. The meeting with his parents was still brought forward because I was going to go to his first chemo and I had to meet them first. It went without saying, I had to know his family at least a little.
With Flavie’s father, “it’s a little complicated” for Valentin
How did your meeting with Flavie’s loved ones go in this context?
With her father it was a little more complicated because I stole his daughter indirectly, he didn’t tell me like that but… I spoke informally to her mother and I addressed her father. But now it’s going very well, there’s nothing to say.
What was the hardest thing for you about this whole situation?
It’s hair loss. I had a lot of trouble because cutting them overnight is not easy, I had a hard time getting used to it. And then, she didn’t leave me a choice, that’s what hurt me all the same because she’s not alone, you have to think of others… She’s quite directive like that, we’re forcing your hand a little and that’s something I don’t like.
Did this create tension between you?
No tension because I don’t say anything but it’s not better.
How is she today? What are the medical plans?
She finished her chemo sessions at the end of September and she is doing better because she returned to work at the beginning of October. The results are in, the side where she had the operation, everything is perfect. We must pay attention to two other points.
