The Executive Management Committee of the Chamber of Foreign Commerce (Camex), linked to the Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services, decided this Monday (11) to eliminate the import tax for medicines used in the treatment of prostate cancer and others types of cancer.

The tax reduction to zero rate also applies to other products, whose tariffs ranged from 3.6% to 18%. They are:

  • inputs used in the production of medical gloves;
  • inputs used in wind blades;
  • tire inputs;
  • agricultural defenses;
  • hydrogel contact lenses;
  • films used in x-rays.

Another 202 imported auto parts were also included in the zero rate because they did not have equivalent products produced in Brazil.

Tax increase

Despite the tax reduction, Gecex-Camex met a tariff increase. In a note, they explained that the measure was implemented “to strengthen local production and create jobs in Brazil”.

There were increases in taxes on products such as glass inputs for industrial purposes and photovoltaic cells used in the production of solar panels.
