Experienced gardeners advise what to do if the hydrangea does not bloom. If you make the same mistake every season, you will never see her blossoms!
What is a hydrangea hydrangea?
For less experienced gardeners, a hydrangea is a hydrangea, but there are about 80 species of these flowers. Only a few types of hydrangeas are the most popular. Most people do not see the difference between hydrangeas, but it is important to remember that not only the appearance of these plants differs, but also the subtleties of care. Growing broom hydrangeas is the easiest, because they are not afraid of low temperatures. However, mistakes can also be made when growing these flowers.
Brush hydrangeas are not very demanding, so they can grow even in those gardens where other types of hydrangeas do not take root. These flowers can grow up to 1.5 meters! However, one and the same problem is encountered quite often: hydrangeas do not bloom. Find out where you’re going wrong.
When and how to prune broom hydrangeas?
It is important to remember that these flowers need to be pruned, but we are often asked how to do it properly. This plant requires regular pruning. Unfortunately, most people burn these plants too much. It is often thought that broom hydrangeas need to be cut 20 cm from the ground, but this is a big mistake. Every year, the plant has to use a lot of energy to grow new shoots, leaves and inflorescences.
Radical spring pruning does more harm to hydrangea than good, because it will not bloom as abundantly as it should. That is why every season you should simply get rid of dry shoots and shorten the plant to 50 cm from the ground. Each year, the hydrangea will be able to be cut lower and lower, until finally after three years you can cut it right to the ground. However, hydrangea will respond positively to such procedures.
