In recent days, left-wing parties, including the PT, signed a manifesto opposing the likely fiscal adjustment that Haddad’s team intends to make in public accounts. The postponement of the announcement of the package and uncertainties regarding President Lula’s support for the measures have generated stress on Brazilian financial assets in the last week.
“The government party has to support the government in any scenario,” said Mercadante. “The PT is sometimes so complex that it does not need opposition. He fulfills several roles.”
