President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva asked that the Ministry of Defense be included in the group that will be affected by the cost containment package discussed by the federal government, according to the newspaper. The Globe.

In June, Planning Minister Simone Tebet stated that reviewing military pensions would be a possibility to be considered in the package of measures to reduce expenses. Tebet has worked together with the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, in preparing the proposals presented to President Lula.

According to military sources interviewed by the newspaper Economic Valuethe savings generated by the review of military pensions would not have a significant impact. However, the measure would have a “symbolism”, demonstrating that cost containment would not be limited to just the social area.
