Operation Praetorian: court against the clock to finish instruction

At the beginning of December, Fernando Madureira’s pre-trial detention time reached the maximum allowed by law in these cases. If the instruction doesn’t end by then, the former FCP cheerleader will return home.

The instruction phase of the Praetorian operation continues this Tuesday with the viewing of the latest images from the controversial General Assembly of FC Porto. The instruction must end by December 7th, when 10 months of preventive detention for the former leader of the Super Dragões will be completed.

Last Friday, by court order, the preventive detention of Fernando Madureira was extended for another 3 months, which does not mean that the former leader of the Super Dragões may not have to be released soon.

On December 7th, Madureira completed 10 months of preventive detention, which maximum time allowed by law in this type of case. If the instruction does not end by that date, the accused will have to return home that same day.

Against the clock, the sessions at the Porto criminal investigation court have been scheduled by the viewing more than 20 hours of video surveillance images do Dragão arena where the controversial general assembly of the FCP took place in November last year.

This Tuesday the last two videos are being watched and it is expected that Fernando Madureira and his wife give testimony at the end.

Follow at least three more sessions this week where other defendants will also want to speak: Carlos Nunes known as Jamaica, José Pereira and Fernando Saúl, a former employee of the club.

A Fernando Saúl’s defense asked that Pinto da Costa be heard for future memory and, due to the advanced age and fragile health of the former FCP president, the judge has until next week to decide whether or not to accept the request.
