Sector accumulates an increase of 4.8% in the year and 3.9% in 12 months; there was an increase in 4 of the 8 activities surveyed
Retail sales rose 0.5% in September compared to August, in the seasonally adjusted series. The (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics) released the result this Tuesday (12.nov.2024). Here is the report (PDF – 4 MB).

According to IBGE, there was an increase in 4 of the 8 activities surveyed. Read:
- other articles for personal and domestic use (3.5%);
- fuels and lubricants (2.3%);
- pharmaceutical, medical, orthopedic and perfumery articles (1.6%);
- hypermarkets, supermarkets, food products, drinks and tobacco (0.3%);
- books, newspapers, magazines and stationery (-0.9%)
- fabrics, clothing and footwear (-1.7%);
- office, IT and communication equipment and material (-1.8%);
- furniture and household appliances (-2.9%).
EXPANDED RETAIL SALES
Broad retail trade – which includes vehicles, motorcycles, parts and pieces, construction materials and wholesale food products, beverages and tobacco – increased by 1.8% in September compared to August.
Vehicles and motorcycles, parts and pieces registered growth of 6.6% in the month. Construction material rose 1.1%.
The target audience for the research is made up of legally constituted companies, that is, registered in the National Register of Legal Entities of the Ministry of Finance (CNPJ), with 20 or more people employed in the Annual Trade Survey, whose gross revenue comes predominantly from retail commercial activity.
The methodology is probabilistic sampling, carried out in all Federation Units. The objective contemplated in the sample design is to obtain estimates of the population totals referring to the variable gross resale revenue, by federation unit and by PMC activity, used to construct the research indicators that are released monthly.
