It begins, the effects of which will last at least until Saturday. On this first day, according to the forecasts of the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), while on Wednesday the most affected areas will be Catalonia, the Valencian Community and Andalusia. On Thursday, there is a lot of uncertainty but, in principle, Aemet points to western Andalusia, again the area between the Ebro delta and Cape de la Nao and the central area is added.

Throughout this new storm, which begins just as it occurs this century, the agency expects “very strong and persistent rainfall, locally torrential, in the Balearic Islands and in the peninsular Mediterranean area” and also “abundant rain in places of the Cantabrian Sea and the central area.” The big question is whether it will be as intense and persistent as the previous dana.

“This new situation presents even greater uncertainty than the previous one and, although in principle it does not seem that it will rain as much, it will do so in an already damaged area such as the south of Catalonia, Castellón and the south of Valencia, so the vulnerability “It is higher,” Aemet spokesperson Rubén del Campo responds to this newspaper, specifying that 100 more liters per square meter of water are expected there between Thursday and Saturday.

“It is not as torrential a rain as the one that fell on Tuesday the 29th, but it is raining and wet,” warns Del Campo, who reiterates that the Aemet “cannot specify at the moment, within the area delimited between the Ebro delta and Cape the Nao, in which specific areas the greatest precipitation will fall”, although he hopes to be able to refine more throughout this Tuesday. “In this situation there is much less energy at play than on October 29. The situation on Wednesday and Thursday is adverse, but with a high probability we will not see either the intensities or the accumulated results of two weeks ago,”

This day, the focus of attention is on the Balearic Islands, where very heavy and even torrential rains are expected, with more than 40 or 60 liters per hour and accumulated 100 liters in 12 hours. “Be careful with the Balearic Islands, because the situation can be very adverse,” warns Del Campo.

The Aemet has nominated eight communities: Aragon, Asturias, the Balearic Islands, Castilla y León, Catalonia, Galicia, Murcia and the Valencian Community. Specifically, the warning is orange – the second level of three – due to rain in the Balearic Islands, Alicante and Valencia, where 40 liters per square meter are expected to fall in one hour; and due to bad seas in Girona, with waves of between three and four meters. On the other hand, it is yellow, the minimum, in Aragon due to wind, in Asturias and Castilla y León due to snow, in other areas of Catalonia due to bad seas, rain and storms, in Galicia due to bad seas, in Murcia due to rains and storms and in other areas of the Valencian Community due to rain and sea storms.

On Wednesday, the worst day of the episode, it will rain in practically all of Spain, although attention will focus on the north of Catalonia, the south of Tarragona, Castellón, the south of Valencia, the north of Alicante, the coasts of Málaga and Granada, as well as in the Balearic Islands. On the warning map, they will be orange for rain, while the warning is yellow for rain, storms, snow or rough seas in Castilla y León and Galicia.

On Thursday, uncertainty increases “very much.” In principle, the areas where the largest quantities of water will be collected will be western Andalusia, again between the Ebro delta and Cape de la Nao and the central area will be added, where it will rain “quite a bit” in the south of the Central system – that is , the mountains of Madrid, the south of Ávila and the north of Extremadura―: “Although it will not be a torrential rain nor where the most water will be collected, between 60 and 80 liters will fall from Thursday to Saturday.” , which is yellow in Andalusia and Galicia.

Along with this important watering, there will be a sudden and important drop in temperatures. “We are going to have a couple of winter days, this Tuesday and Wednesday.” Thus, on Tuesday temperatures will begin to drop, a drop that “will continue on Wednesday, when it will be more pronounced in the southern half.” This day, the temperatures will remain between 10° and 15° in the interior and on the coasts between 15° and 20°. It will be the peak day, with values between 5° and 10° below normal in the southeast. “It will be temporary, because starting Thursday the temperatures will rise and remain around normal,” Del Campo advances.

As a result of the thermal collapse, both days the snow level will be “low”, around 800 meters in the north of the Peninsula, which may make road traffic on the area’s roads and railways difficult. “5 to 10 centimeters of snow can accumulate in the Cantabrian mountain range, in the Pyrenees and in the north of the Iberian system.” Already on Thursday, “the level will rise quite a bit” and the snow will be confined to the mountain peaks.
