The “faceless billionaire” is revolutionizing the communications market in Portugal. A summary of Zoltan Teszari’s journey.

The revolution in the communications market in Portugal has a name: . And in the creation of this Romanian company another name appears: Zoltan Teszari.

O multimillionaire 54-year-old started to create his fortune in the last century, but from an early age he tried – and managed – to be discreet.

As highlighted by , one of the few recorded images appeared shortly after the fall of the USSR: there was already a Audi 80 when most other Romanians opted for a Dacia.

He was a judo champion but it was in the business world that he began to stand out.

It stands out… away from the journalists, away from the cameras. Likes to be known as the “faceless billionaire”. And with good reason: he’s a multimillionaire and his face barely appears.

Its biggest enemy, according to the Romanian press, is not a business adversary, a competitor – it is cameras.

In numbers, it is a machine: it is in the top 20 of richest people from Romania, with assets worth almost 400 million euros. Yes, the large portion related to the area of telecommunications.

He founded and leads Digi but away from the workers. In fact, there are reports of workers not even knowing how to speak to the owner. Also internally, he is very cautious about when he speaks and who he speaks to.

Returning to the mystery and his CV: no one knows for sure where Zoltan Teszari’s house is. There will be a modest office in Oradea, his hometown. He will also have a son – in principle.

Coming from a family of Hungarian originand with little money at home, he wasn’t exactly brilliant at school but he had a “sharp mental capacity”, say former colleagues.

During his travels to other countries – because of judo tournaments – he began to get closer to the business world. As? He brought to Romania products/brands that were not available in his country: whiskey, clothes, cigarettes, coffee. He bought cheap, sold expensive and the profit era considerable.

It was with this profit that he was able to invest in a ice cream maker And so his career as an entrepreneur officially began: selling ice cream in the backyard of a church.

Then the choices were not random: his partner was the bishop’s grandson and the area – the church’s backyard – was suitable for the business.

His ice cream shop would even become the largest distributor for the production of Transylvanian ice cream.

Then he entered the business of importing equipment for televisions – and yes, he later owned a telecommunications company. First business cable televisionafter internet and already at the end of the century… Digi Communications.
