The newly elected US President Donald Trump announced on Monday that he will appoint former Republican congressman Lee Zeldin as the head of the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). TASR informs about it with reference to the report of the Reuters agency.
“He will ensure fair and swift deregulatory decisions are made to unleash the power of American businesses while maintaining the highest environmental standards, including the cleanest air and water on the planet,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social social network.
Trump’s new administration is likely to seek to roll back many of the rules the EPA currently enforces on fossil fuel burning, including curbs on carbon dioxide emissions from power plants and vehicles.
Zeldin, a former congressman for the state of New York, often voted against key laws related to ecology during his time in the US Congress, Reuters recalls.
“We will restore US energy dominance, revive our auto industry to bring back American jobs, and make the US a world leader in artificial intelligence,” Zeldin wrote in a post on the X social network.
