Considered a promise for Real Madrid, 19-year-old midfielder Marc Cucalón decided to end his short career. The decision was made after the boy was infected by a bacteria that lodged in the cartilage of a joint during surgery to reconstruct the cruciate ligament in his knee.

Marc was injured during a Real Madrid match against Celtic Glasgow, in the Youth League, in November 2022. Since then, he has not played on the field. The infection contracted by the player is considered rare. The midfielder consulted with different specialists, but was advised to leave the field.

“After several complications, this injury forced me to make the difficult decision to say GOODBYE to football, at least in the way I always dreamed of. In the last two years I fought physically and mentally with all my strength and tried everything I could my ability to enjoy this sport again, but it was not possible to recover. Even if you don’t understand me wrong, this is not a sad goodbye”, wrote the young man on his social networks.

Marc Cucalón was considered a jewel in the Real Madrid academy and was compared to Spanish idol Xabi Alonso, who made a career playing for clubs like Liverpool and the Merengue team itself.

Another Real Madrid idol, Brazilian full-back Marcelo wished the now former athlete good luck. “Have a good day, boy! Lots of strength,” wrote the Brazilian.
