According to data released by the Brazilian Basic Education Yearbook, the amount allocated represents growth compared to 2021
The Brazilian Yearbook of Basic Education points out that in 2022 R$490 billion was allocated to the education sector. This value represents a significant increase of 23% compared to the previous year, 2021. The growth is the largest recorded since 2013, a period in which public education expenditures either fell, or increased modestly, at around 2% per year. The data, released this Wednesday (13), reflects government expenses in three spheres: Union, States and municipalities. Between 2013 and 2022, growth in education was 8% in deflated values, rising from R$452 billion to R$490 billion. Ivan Gontijo, educational policy manager at the organization “Todos Pela Educação”, highlighted that the increase was driven by Fundeb, the main mechanism for financing education in Brazil.
