Analysis by the “Financial Times” shows that capacity in Premier League stadiums is expected to increase by 115 thousand seats
At least 10 English clubs are considering renovating their stadiums to boost their revenue. A survey carried out by the newspaper shows that Aston Villa, Bournemouth, Crystal Palace, Everton, Fulham, Ipswich, Leicester, Manchester City, Manchester United and Nottingham Forest will, together, increase the capacity of Premier League arenas by 115 thousand seats over the next 10 years .
The British newspaper states that Tottenham’s stadium, opened in 2019 and whose construction cost around 1 billion pounds sterling, is seen as an example by other clubs. For Christopher Lee, director of the architecture firm Populous, the biggest way a team can increase its revenue is on game days.
A study by consultancy Deloitte indicated that 14% of the revenue produced by Premier League clubs in the 2022-2023 season comes from days when there are games – the figure is around 867 million pounds sterling.
Responsible for Aston Villa’s operations, Chris Heck stated that the club plans to expand Villa Park’s capacity to around 50,000 fans – today, it is around 42,000.
Owner of the largest capacity stadium in the 1st division of English football, Manchester United also intends to expand its home. A recent poll of fans revealed that the majority are in favor of building a new arena. Nothing has been finalized, but there are discussions so that it can receive up to 100,000 people on game days.
