Court confirms conviction of former president Cristina Kirchner for state fraud

BUENOS AIRES (Reuters) – The former president and Peronist leader of the opposition was sentenced this Wednesday (13) to six years in prison for state fraud by a higher court, which also disqualifies her from holding public office.

Cristina, twice president between 2007 and 2015 and vice president from 2019 to 2023, can appeal the decision of the Federal Chamber of Criminal Cassation, in a case known as “Vialidad”, in which she is accused of favoring a businessman friend by granting public works.

Militants surrounded the court to protest a decision that, according to the former president, was politically motivated. “The real goal is to banish me for life,” she said in a text on the X network.
