This Tuesday (13), the Court began the investigation of the case that became known as ““, an episode that drew attention both nationally and internationally. The incident occurred in April this year, when Érica Nunes, niece of Paulo Roberto Braga, tried to withdraw R$17,000 from a bank branch in the west zone of Rio de Janeiro, even though her uncle was already deceased in a wheelchair. Érica was preventively detained for two weeks, but her arrest was later revoked by the Fluminense Judiciary. She faces charges of embezzlement and vilification of a corpse.

Preliminary investigations, which were based on statements and images from security cameras, suggest that Érica was aware of her uncle’s death, but still tried to carry out the loot. Bank branch employees, upon noticing the anomalous situation, promptly called SAMU and the police. Érica was detained shortly after giving a statement at a police station in Rio de Janeiro. In interviews, she stated that she did not realize that her uncle was dead and claimed that she went to the bank at his request.
