Every year, the famous gastronomic guide, TasteAtlas, presents a list of the best and worst dishes in Portugal. As the list is the result of visitor reviews on social media and on the TasteAtlas website, it is through it that we learn which are the favorite and most hated dishes of those who visit our country.
It’s no longer news when he informs that Pastel de Nata is visitors’ favorite Portuguese delicacy, as this is one of our country’s main business cards. However, what surprises the Portuguese most are the dishes considered to be the most hated. This year, Maranho da Sertã, a sausage made from goat and sheep meat, was considered the worst dish in Portuguese cuisine.
Also among the worst options are Bacalhau com Todos, as well as Bolo-Rei, without forgetting the famous Fig Cheese, from the Algarve. The traditional Algarve sweet achieved just 3.2 stars, out of five possible, making it the eighth worst Portuguese delicacy. It is worth mentioning that Fig Cheese is a sweet prepared with dried figs and almonds.
Traditionally, sliced figs and almonds were placed in a mold and doused with brandy. The combination would then be pressed and stored until the ingredients were combined into a firm cake.
Note that, on the opposite side of the table, that is, the preferred Portuguese proposal, is the Pastel de Nata, followed by the famous Ameijoas à Bulhão Pato. Closing the podium was the traditional Madeira kebab.
