It wasn’t long ago that the trend of using horse shampoo to accelerate human hair growth went viral on social media. Many have been influenced by this trend, hoping to see their hair grow faster. Still, there are many dangers of using this type of shampoo, starting with the fact that it was developed for horses and not for humans.

In an interview with , dermatologist, Alexandra Osório, clarifies that “horse shampoo generally contains ingredients that can be very strong and aggressive for human hair”. “This can result in dryness, fragility and damage to the hair”, he explains. In addition to this fact, there is another that relates to the difference in pH between shampoos developed for horses and humans.

According to the dermatologist, these differences may be enough to affect the health of the scalp and the hair itself.

Finally, Dr Alexandra Osório reinforces that “there is no scientific evidence that proves that the use of horse shampoo brings significant benefits to human hair”. Furthermore, the use of products not formulated for human use may cause allergies, irritations or adverse reactions to the skin and scalp, as they are not certified by Infarmed.
