Elon Musk promises “maximum transparency” in the US government

Billionaire will be in charge of the efficiency department alongside businessman Vivek Ramaswamy

Elon Musk, billionaire owner of Tesla and X (former Twitter) promises “maximum transparency” to command the Doge (Department of Government Efficiency) of the United States, as per the country’s elected president, Donald Trump (Republican Party), on Tuesday (12.Nov.2024). Next to him, businessman and former Republican candidate, Vivek Ramaswamy, takes office in the office that the Republican dubbed “modern-day Manhattan project”.

At X, Musk promised that the department’s actions will be published online for maximum transparency and made an “agreement” with the population. “Whenever the public thinks we are cutting something important or that we are not cutting something that is wasteful, just let us know”, on the social network. The billionaire made a joke by promising to create a spending classification table “most insanely stupid”. This measure, according to him, “It will be extremely tragic and extremely fun”.

During the presidential campaign, Trump had promised Musk a role on a special transparency commission. The billionaire, who is one of the biggest financiers of the Republican campaign (donated around US$200 million) has already said that this is just the beginning of his political career.

Alongside Musk, Vivek Ramaswamy takes over the department to help put an end to “waste” e “cheats”, according to Trump. Nicknamed “New Trump”, Ramaswamy, who is a billionaire biotechnology businessman, became known for also defending the deportation of illegal immigrants from the United States.

In a statement, Donald Trump stated that the partnership with the 2 businessmen will potentially become the “modern-day Manhattan project” and that the work of both in the government will be completed by July 2026. He also said that the 2 will be responsible for “dismantle government bureaucracy, cut excessive regulations, cut unnecessary spending, and restructure federal agencies“in a way”never seen before”.
