At the United Nations (UN) security council, the Palestinian ambassador warned of an “orchestrated plan” that aims to devastate the Gaza Strip. Israel says it is being targeted by an “army of slander”.
International alerts continue about the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip. In the security council of (UN), held this Wednesday, authorities say that the North region records high levels of food insecurity and hunger.
Joyce Msuya, Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, recalls the obstacles that have been placed on the UN Support Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).
“Our capacity to respond is being undermined, notably by the Israeli Knesset legislation, which seeks to ban UNRWA activities from January onwards”, says Joyce Msuya, who continues. “If implemented, this bill will be another devastating blow to efforts to provide life-saving aid and prevent the threat of famine. No other organization can fill these gaps.”
Linda Thomas-Greenfield, US ambassador to the UN, states that “Israel has taken some important steps”, such as “restoring aid supplies to the North”, . However, he stresses that Benjamin Netanyahu’s government “must ensure that its actions are fully implemented and that improvements are sustained over time”.
Raising the tone of the conversation, Riyad Mansour, Palestine’s ambassador to the UN, accuses Israel of “an orchestrated plan” that affects the civilian population.
“Everything we warned about, everything Israel denied, is happening before our eyes. We are in the final stages of an orchestrated plan to empty vast areas of Gaza of its Palestinian population and to inflict on the civilian population.”
Danny Danon, Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations, says the country is being targeted by slander “disguised as humanitarian concern”.
