Ex-Minister of Foreign Affairs joins the PS opposition movement unsuccessful presidential candidate Ivan Korčokwho informed about it together with the leader of the movement Michal Šimeček and other members of the PS at Monday’s press conference.

“I had many other options to deal with the political capital I have. I didn’t want to experiment. I want to support an entity that will be a really dominant, pro-democratic, pro-European and modern force in the next elections, as well as in the long term, which will move our country forward,” noted Korčok.

Korčok spoke about a common value base and a common goal with the movement. “I want with my entry with my political identity, which is well known, to send a signal to society that cooperation between different opinions, centrist voters, centrist politicians, more progressive, more liberal, but also more conservative is possible,” he declared.

In the movement, he should mainly devote himself to the preparation of the electoral program and the strategic direction of the PS. According to his own words, he received an offer for membership in the PS presidency. At the same time, he confirmed that he will not run for the post of chairman of the movement against Šimeček.

The information about the new reinforcement of the Progressive Slovakia movement did not escape either former adviser to Prime Minister Robert Fico. He was removed from his position months ago. Eduard Chmelár did not take a napkin and used some really harsh words.

“Ivan Korčok became Michal Šimečka’s shoulder bag. It’s comical when a presidential candidate with a million votes after 7 months disposes of his political capital by merging with one political partyalthough the second offered him the position of leader. This does not speak of his ability to lead, but to serve,” Chmelár said on Facebook.

“After HZDS, SDKÚ, Smere and SaS, Ivan Korčok anchored in another party, and I wouldn’t bet that it will be his last. However, progressive Slovakia has shown special abilities when it miraculously turns independent candidates into paid employees of its party apparatus. The hour of truth will come when Korčok asks for the position of leader, because two roosters in one garbage can will not last long. But if it doesn’t work out, progressives can be sure: they won’t forget this. Because he won’t enjoy retrieving for a long time,” are Chmelár’s sharp words.
