According to the public plans of the National Federation of Agricultural Operators’ Unions, “at the end of the month there will be an important national operation, which will begin with blockades in the departments and end in Paris.”
Unions linked to the French agricultural sector are preparing protests from the beginning of next week to resume demands from a year ago, in particular opposition to the EU/Mercosur agreement.
Arnaud Rousseau, ‘number one’ of the main organization in the sector, said this Wednesday in an interview with France Inter radio that protests are preparing from Monday, coinciding with the G20 summit in Brazil, where progress may be made in the negotiation of the free trade agreement between the European Union (EU) and Mercosur.
The president of the National Federation of Agricultural Operators’ Unions (FNSEA) launched a mobilization message “in all departments” in France to alert public authorities to the “dramatic consequences” for French agriculture that, in his opinion, entry into force would have.
The EU-Mercosur pact was signed in 2019, after many years of negotiation, but has been blocked since then by the opposition of some European countries, and in particular in France, which is now seeking to form a coalition to veto it.
Rural Coordination, the second largest union in the sector, called 19 meetings with farmers, in front of municipal chambers (government delegations), for Tuesday, threatening protests at “strategic points”.
According to the public plans of this union, “at the end of the month there will be an important national operation, which will begin with blockades in the departments and end in Paris.”
