University of Minas Gerais will offer free psychological support and develop research on pathological gambling in partnership with company
Fumec University, in Belo Horizonte, and the sports betting company signed a partnership to research and prevent pathological gambling. The agreement includes free psychological support and studies on gambling behavior and addiction.
The initiative’s professor and scientific coordinator, Lafaiete Guimarães Moreira, states that the project will fill an academic gap. “Our objective is to investigate the behaviors that can lead to the development of pathological gambling among Brazilians, a field that is still little explored academically in the country”, it says.
The agreement provides for partnerships with researchers from other institutions to expand studies on the topic.
The company will offer free online psychological counseling sessions for bettors seeking help. Mental health professionals will lead the sessions, and care staff will receive training to identify risk behaviors.
Fellipe Fraga, operations director at EstrelaBet, highlights the commitment to responsible practices. “We believe that gambling should be a leisure activity and are committed to helping our users maintain a balanced betting routine”he states.
The company implements control tools such as time and value limits, self-exclusion and automatic alerts to stop betting.
