The minister of the STF (Supreme Federal Court) Luiz Fux decided this Wednesday (13.Nov.2024) that the federal government must adopt measures to prevent the use of assistance program resources in online betting, the so-called bets. The determination encompasses, for example, benefits paid by Bolsa Família and BPC (Continuous Payment Benefit).
In the decision ( – PDF – 179 kB), Fux established that the rules set out in an ordinance on the prohibition of advertising on betting sites aimed at children and adolescents must be applied immediately. The judge said that “This decision is preliminary in nature.” and it must be “submitted to the referendum of the Plenary of the Federal Supreme Court, regardless of its immediate effectiveness”.
