Lisbon Metro: workers on partial strike on Thursday morning

The strike, like the one that occurred on the 6th, was decided by the workers in plenary and is intended to require the carrier to pay for so-called variable payments (overtime and holidays) and compliance with the Business Agreement.

Workers at the Metropolitano de Lisboa are going on another partial strike on Thursday, between 5am and 10am, due to the transport company’s lack of response to the demands presented regarding payments and the Company Agreement, according to the union.

Metropolitano de Lisboa informs users that, due to the strike, The transport service is expected to stop from 6:30 am to 10:00 am, with circulation expected to return to normal from 10:30 am.

“Taking into account the result of the meeting with the Metropolitano administration being zero, the union organizations reaffirm the strike on the 14th [quinta-feira]between 05:00 and 10:00”, says the Federation of Transport and Communications Unions (Fectrans) in a statement.

According to the note, the unions were called to a meeting with the transport company on Monday, thinking that the meeting “could bring with it the resolution of the conflict, but they quickly realized that what the company fundamentally wanted was the suspension of that same strike without any compensation“.

The strike, like the one that occurred on the 6th, was decided by the workers in a plenary session and intends to require the carrier to pay the so-called variables (overtime and holidays) and compliance with the Company Agreement.

Regarding non-compliance with the Company Agreement, the union highlights issues such as working conditions, career progression and reduced working hours.

Also according to the union, at Monday’s meeting the board of directors of Metropolitano “nothing pointed to a solution” and took refuge “in legal issues”.

“After discussing the various arguments presented, we clearly told the board of directors that it didn’t even make sense to hold any plenary with the workers of the Metropolitano de Lisboa, because we all knew the very legitimate purposes for which the notices had been presented advance notice of strike.

At the time of the first strike, at the beginning of the month, Metropolitano de Lisboa placed a clarification note on the website regarding the reasons presented by the union associations for the strike, stating that, in relation to the payment of “variable calls”, the issue met is currently “under consideration by the competent courts”.

The carrier’s management also indicated that “maintains full availability, materialized in the more than 15 formal meetings already held in 2024with trade union organizations, to continue all ongoing negotiation processes”.

Among these are the “changes to the Career Regulations, reduction of maximum working hours to 37.5 hours per weekthrough constructive negotiation, with the aim of satisfying customer needs, improving working conditions and modernizing the company, ensuring its sustainability”.

The Lisbon Metropolitan operates daily with four lines: Yellow (Rato-Odivelas), Green (Telheiras-Cais do Sodré), Blue (Reboleira-Santa Apolónia) and Red (Airport-São Sebastião).

Normally, The service operates between 06:30 and 01:00.
