North Korean troops have joined combat operations against Ukraine alongside Russian allies, South Korea’s spy agency said on Wednesday.
TASR reports according to Reuters and Jonhap reports.
The agency is collecting more detailed information about the involvement of DPRK soldiers in the war in Ukraine. The Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Mark Rutte declared on Wednesday, before the publication of this report, that the possible deployment of North Korean troops in support of Russia will require a “tough response” from Kiev’s allies.
In recent days, the West and Ukraine have repeatedly warned that the DPRK has sent thousands of its soldiers to Russia’s Kursk region on the border with Ukraine and may use them in a war lasting more than two and a half years. According to information from Western intelligence services, there are more than 10,000 of them in Russia, indicating a deeper involvement in the conflict.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi has repeatedly criticized the restrained reaction of his allies to the possible deployment of North Korean soldiers. Their involvement in the war causes concern on the international stage.
