PEC at the end of the 6 X 1 scale reaches necessary signatures

The PEC (Proposed Amendment to the Constitution) which proposes with the 6 The document has more than 171 signatures from deputies, the minimum to be filed in the Chamber.

The project aims to reduce working hours to 36 hours per week, maintaining the daily working hours of 8 hours. Currently, the Federal Constitution defines an 8-hour working day, with a total weekly workload of 44 hours. The author of the PEC is the deputy (Psol-SP). The PEC arose from the demand of the VAT (Life beyond Work) movement. The popular movement was founded by councilor (Psol-RJ) and was his main campaign banner in the 2024 municipal elections. The first-term politician also articulated the PEC together with the deputy.

In the proposal, the deputy justifies that the reduced working hours would increase the well-being of employees and open up new job vacancies among young people to cover the time off of current employees.

“Everyone needs to have more time for their family, to qualify in the face of the growing employer demand for greater qualifications, to have a better life, with fewer health problems and accidents at work – and more dignity”it says.

With the necessary signatures, the project will be analyzed by the CCJ (Constitution, Justice and Citizenship Commission). If accepted by the CCJ, the text is debated in a special commission that can make changes to the PEC. After that, the text goes to the Plenary for voting.
