The Rio de Janeiro Civil Police are looking for Rafael da Rocha Furtado, 26 years old, suspected of having taken an açaí in the Cavalcanti neighborhood, in the north zone of the capital of Rio de Janeiro.
Initially, it was believed that the two children had been poisoned, near the school where they studied, which had been delivered by a woman on the street.
However, the Capital Homicide Police Station (DHC) reported that no evidence of this woman was found.
The agents discovered that, in fact, the main suspect of having poisoned Ythallo Raphael Tobias Rosa, aged 6, and Benjamim Rodrigues Ribeiro, aged 7, at the end of September, was the ex-husband of Benjamim’s mother, Rafael da Rocha Furtado .
On the day of the crime, Rafael picked Benjamin up at school and offered him a poisoned açaí. On the way home, the boy met Ythalo Tobias Rosa, with whom he shared the drink, according to the Civil Police.
An expert opinion from the Legal Medical Institute (IML) confirmed that the children ingested pellets. Ythalo was taken to the Del Castilho UPA, where he died. Benjamin was transferred to Miguel Couto Hospital, where he remained hospitalized for 13 days, but was confirmed brain dead.
A temporary arrest warrant was issued by the courts and Rafael is considered a fugitive. The Civil Police reported that they are carrying out efforts to locate and capture him.
The suspect was indicted for qualified homicide against a minor under 14 years old (Henry Borel Law).
