IPMA’s yellow warning for snowfall above 1400/1600 meters is in force until 9pm this Wednesday.
Snow has been falling heavily in Serra da Estrela since 4pm this Wednesday, and has led to some roads being closed as a precaution.
According to information shared by , and confirmed by a source from the Beiras Sub-regional Command, sections 11 (Piornos-Torre), 12 (Torre-Torre) and 13 (Torre-Lagoa Comprida) were closed at 4:00 p.m. and 15 minutes later, sections 1 and 2, which connect Portela de Arão to Lagoa Comprida and Lagoa Comprida-Sabugueiro were also closed.
From 15:00 until 21:00, a yellow alert has been issued for “snowfall above 1400/1600 meters” which could cause “disturbance caused by snowfall with accumulation and possible formation of ice”.
For this Thursday, the showers will continue, sometimes “heavy and more frequent in the Center and South regions”. According to the IPMA, there is a possibility of hail and thunderstorms. Temperatures will rise compared to Wednesday.
