The PS movement appeals to the Minister of the Interior Matúš Šutaj Eštok (Voice-SD) to solve the problem of violence in the police. In this regard, the KDH wants to initiate a meeting of the parliamentary defense committee.

“It is unthinkable that people should fear the abuse of physical force by those who are supposed to protect them. In Košice, we witness this kind of behavior repeatedly, and it is clearly a systemic problem. If Minister Šutaj Eštok does not immediately start solving it, it can irreversibly damage people’s trust in the police,” stated the member of the National Council (NR) of the Slovak Republic Zuzana Mesterová (PS).

Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee for Human Rights and National Minorities Lucia Plaváková (PS) she pointed out that the problem is clearly systemic. “If we want to prevent a repeat of this terrible scenario, the Minister of the Interior should deal with it immediately. We will also address this unacceptable situation at the next meeting of the Human Rights Committee, where we have also invited the Minister of the Interior, Matúš Šutaj Eštok,” she said.

They also commented on the incident Christian Democrats. They appealed for his thorough investigation and bringing to justice as soon as possible. They also talked about increasing cases of police brutality. “The situation in the Police Force after the changes made by the Minister of the Interior Šutaj Eštok is alarming. The minister is dedicated to normalization and purges in the police, but does not address the weakening of the state’s ability to protect its citizens,” they pointed out.

In this context, they also announced the initiation of the parliamentary defense security committee. They will request the participation of Šutaj Eštok and Police Chief Ľubomír Solák. “To explain the reasons for these police actions and propose solutions to this unprecedented situation,” it added KDH.

The deputy is also worried about the situation Veronika Remišová (Slovakia, For the People, KÚ). “Police violence is inadmissible in a democratic and legal state, and it is the full responsibility of the Minister of the Interior and the President of the Police Force to ensure that the police function professionally and strictly abide by the law. I expect that the minister and his subordinates will explain the repeated police brutality to the citizens of this country and will also be able to hold them accountable.” she declared.

The investigator of the Inspection Service Office (ÚIS) accused the Košice policeman of a particularly serious crime of murder. According to the ÚIS investigator, he had while on duty on November 5, causing multiple injuries to a person arrested for a crime, to which she succumbed in hospital the next day. The accused faces a sentence of 12 to 15 years in prison.

THE OMBUDSMAN IS AFRAID OF SUSPECTED POLICE BRUTALITY IN KOŠIČIĆ

Ombudsman Róbert Dobrovodský je horrified by the suspicion of police brutality. He believes that the incident connected with the accusation of a Košice police officer for killing a detained person will be clarified by the relevant police forces. Hspeaks about the need to ensure video recording of police actions in which coercive means are expected to be used. This follows from his statement on the social network.

“I am appalled when, on the eve of the 35th anniversary of the Day of the Struggle for Freedom and Democracy, when society agreed that the arbitrariness of the repressive branches of power will be curtailed, I have to learn about suspicions of police brutality. Human rights supervision of the exercise of executive power in our state is one of my priorities. The executive and the police have a monopoly on violence not to hurt people, but to protect them from crime.” he noted.

In this context, the public defender of rights also drew attention to the fact that it is necessary to ensure that the police secure a video recording of the course of each planned event, in which the use of coercive means is already foreseen during its preparation.
