US annual inflation rises to 2.6% in October

The increase was 0.2 percentage points in the 12 months compared to September; monthly inflation was 0.2%

US annual inflation rose to 2.6% in October. The rate increased by 0.2 percentage points compared to September, when accumulated over 12 months. Monthly inflation was 0.2%, the same since July.

The consumer price index was announced this Wednesday (13.Nov.2024) by the (Bureau of Labor Statistics). Here is the report (PDF – 527 kB, in English).

According to the document, the energy index fell 4.9% in the last 12 months, while the food index increased 2.1%.

“Prices that increased in October include housing, used cars and trucks, airfares, medical care and recreation. The prices of clothing, communication and furniture and domestic operations were some of those that decreased in the month”the report said.

Core inflation, which does not include food and energy prices, rose to 0.3% in October and 3.3% on an annualized basis.

INTEREST IN THE USA

On November 7, the Fed (Federal Reserve, the central bank of the United States) from 4.75% to 5.00% to 4.50% to 4.75% per year. The cut was 0.25 percentage points.

This was the 2nd reduction in the North American rate since March 2020, when the covid pandemic began. The 1st cut.
