Employees at the American newspaper should return to five days a week by June next year, according to a statement released by the newspaper’s executive director, William Lewis.
“We’re really good when we work together in person,” Lewis writes.
The Post’s new policy, which belongs to , founder of , reflects a guideline similar to that announced by the ecommerce giant in September this year. Andy Jassy, the company’s CEO, said in a statement to employees that in-person allows Amazon to accelerate and maintain its culture.
The measure could increase the controversies involving the newspaper. This year, so does Bezos. The decision triggered a wave of subscription cancellations and was disapproved by journalists.
The definitive end to working from home was not well received by representatives of The Washington Post Guild, the outlet’s employee union, who called the policy “inflexible and outdated.”
“The union leadership sees this for what it is: a change that tends to further disrupt our work rather than improve our productivity and concentration,” they said.
