Who watched the first season of “Family Evil“, series of Apple TV+ indicated to the Emmyprobably believed that the story came to an end in the last episode. This is because the production is based on the Belgian miniseries “Clan“, which had just one season.
Still, Apple TV+ decided to give the Garvey sisters new episodes, a choice that came as no surprise Sharon Horgancreator, star and writer of the series. “While filming series 1, I realized there was a chemistry between the sisters that worked really well. So I already had an idea of what could happen if we decided to continue the story,” she told CNN.
She continued: “The end of the first season is very satisfying and gives the impression of a ‘perfect closure’. However, the response from audiences and critics was so positive, everyone loved it. So I thought: why not do more?”
However, Horgan stated that she would only return to the series’ universe if she and the other producers found a story good enough to justify the continuation. “And indeed, we found“, she said. “The new season addresses the consequences of what happened.”
“This seemed very natural to mebecause life is not that simple. There is a lot of drama and side effects, so we had to build our story from that,” she concluded.
In the new production episodes, “Mal de Família” takes a time jump of two years. After the “accidental death” of Grace’s abusive husband (Anne-Marie Duff), the Garvey sisters, who have become closer, believe they have overcome their suspicions.
However, with the return of past truths, they find themselves in the spotlight again. Lies begin to emerge and secrets are exposed, as they are forced to discover who they can truly trust.
The production stars Sharon Horgan (“Catastrophe”), Eva Birthistle (“Awakening of the Dead”), Sarah Greene (“”) and (“”). In addition to starring, Horgan also writes and produces the series.
The first season is now available on Apple TV+. Episodes of the second season are released every Wednesday on the platform.
