The hackers have information on various capabilities of the Hungarian armed forces as well as data on army procurement.
An international hacking group has apparently gained access to the servers of the Hungarian Army Procurement Agency (VBÜ) and is now demanding five million dollars (4.7 million euros) to unlock the locked data and not to release it. It was written by the hang.hu server on Thursday, informs the TASR correspondent in Budapest.
The so-called screenshots of important military secrets, such as various capabilities of the Hungarian armed forces, as well as emails, names of personnel and data on military procurement are now available on the dark web, the server writes.
They showed screenshots and are asking for five million dollars
IT security expert Ferenc Frész wrote on his Facebook account on Wednesday evening that the INC Ransomware group attacked, downloaded and encrypted the entire contents of the VBÜ file server. By 2025, this attack could lead to a complete shutdown of procurement.
The server quoted from the website of the hacking group, where it was published on November 6 that they are demanding five million dollars from the Hungarian state authorities, while they have already published dozens of screenshots of the computer libraries to which they had access. They also published e-mails, accounting materials, lists of military procurement documents, investment plans and non-public materials about the country’s military capabilities.
INC Ransom is an international group that attacks with the so-called fifth generation ransomware virus. They mainly try to break into the IT systems of large American and European companies and government agencies.
On the website of the Hungarian military office, information appeared about a “failure” and the interruption of the VBÜ server operation due to an IT failure. According to the military office, the malfunction was completely removed on October 22. Competent authorities have not yet responded to hang.hu’s questions about the hacker attack.
