President of the Supreme Court said he is monitoring the case; one person died and a car exploded in the City Hall parking lot

The president of the (Supreme Federal Court), minister Roberto Barroso, stated that he spoke with the president (PT) and the director general of the PF (Federal Police), Andrei Rodrigues, about the events, in Brasília, on Wednesday night ( 13.nov.2024).

After the incident, Supremo was evacuated. Barroso said he is directly in contact with STF security to monitor the development of the case (read the note below).

One person died in front of the Statue of Justice after an explosion. A car also exploded in the parking lot of the Chamber of Deputies. A sergeant from the PM-DF (Military Police of the Federal District) told journalists that a man had been seen running from inside the vehicle that exploded.

The car would have a “kind of bomb” which didn’t completely detonate. The suspicion is that it was made up of fireworks, as shown in images circulating online.

Watch (1min6s):

There are several fractionated explosives, together, tied with bricks around them, but there was no complete ignition, there was no explosion. We couldn’t associate it because the individual ran away, we saw the smoke, we thought he was running because of the fire in the vehicle. Later we saw that it was a bomb. There are signs, it seems to me that it is the same person who tried to cause an explosion there, failed and ran to the STF”, he stated.

Here is the full note from the President of the Supreme Court:

“The president of the STF spoke by telephone with the president of the Republic, with the director general of the PF and with the vice-governor of the DF. Also via message with the governor of DF. He is monitoring the incident and is directly in contact with STF security.”
