Governor Ronaldo Caiado (União-GO), from Goiás, stated on Wednesday night (13) that the three explosions recorded near the Federal Supreme Court (STF) and the National Congress are the reflection of a country “that is adrift ” and a “weak and apathetic” government.
Self-declared presidential candidate in 2026 against the re-election of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), Caiado also drew a parallel between tonight’s explosions and the execution of a man by the PCC last week at São Paulo/Guarulhos International Airport.
“One day, factions believe they have the right to murder in broad daylight in the middle of Guarulhos International Airport. Three days later, we watched, in disbelief, attacks against life and order, in terrorist acts at the Supreme Court and the National Congress,” he said on social media.
According to him, Lula’s government “is omitted” from the problems of Brazilian society and “kneels before the advance of organized crime and extremism”.
“We need to act harshly and energetically, otherwise we risk becoming a country run by organized crime and disorder,” he pointed out.
He amended it by stating that “this is what I have been saying for a few months: with the lack of command in the country, in the absence of a strong leader, extremism and organized crime are advancing”.
The explosions on Wednesday night (13) were seen by Lula’s ministers and left-wing allies with signs of political motivation. The president did not comment, but Paulo Pimenta, from the Communication Secretariat (Secom), stated that “attacks on institutions are attacks on democracy and the Brazilian people”.
“Increasingly, the defense of democracy, the fight against intolerance and the policy of hate that has contaminated sectors of society are becoming fundamental. We cannot, under any circumstances, naturalize undemocratic acts”, he said.
He amended it by stating that “we will continue working for the reconstruction of our country and for the unity of the Brazilian people, all those who are against this will be defeated once again”.
The Federal Police opened an investigation to investigate the explosions that killed one person. The entire area of the Esplanada dos Ministérios and the buildings of Praça dos Três Poderes was isolated by the authorities, who carried out a sweep in search of more artifacts.
The explosions occurred in the early evening when a man walked with the artifacts through the square in front of the STF headquarters. He died when one of them exploded. A car in the City Hall parking lot also had an explosion.
“At the end of the STF session this Wednesday (13), two loud bangs were heard and the ministers were safely removed from the building. Servers and employees from the headquarters building were removed as a precautionary measure. More information about the investigations must await the development of the facts. STF Security collaborates with the DF police authorities”, said the STF in a statement.
