Sessions at Casa Baixa are canceled until 12pm; commitments at Palácio do Planalto are maintained
The , the and the (Supreme Federal Court) suspended the activities scheduled for Thursday (Nov 14, 2024) after Wednesday night (Nov 13) at Praça dos Três Poderes, in Brasília. The site has been closed and is undergoing inspection. One person died.
The decision of the Lower House was formalized by the president Arthur Lira (PP-AL) and includes the suspension of all legislative and administrative activities until 12pm on November 14th. Plenary sessions, committee meetings and other scheduled events are cancelled.
Lira justified the measure as necessary to “guarantee the safety of parliamentarians, employees, collaborators and visitors, in addition to protecting public property”. Here is the decision (PDF – 56 kB).
In a statement, the STF said that the buildings will undergo a complete sweep to check for possible artifacts in the early hours and morning of this Thursday (Nov 14). The trials, however, were not cancelled.
“Office hours have been suspended until noon in all buildings, and the situation will be reassessed throughout the morning.”
