New audio clips have surfaced in which the infamous cult leader Charles Manson confesses to previously unknown murders. In the trailer for a new documentary series, Manson says he “left some dead people on the beach” in Mexico.

It concerns the time before Manson founded his infamous cult The Manson Family. In the late 1960s, his supporters committed at least seven murders in California. Manson did not kill himself, but incited his followers to do so. Their most famous victim was the actress Sharon Tate, heavily pregnant at the time. She was married to director Roman Polanski.

‘Couple killed on beach’

The fragments were published by the American streaming service Peacock in a ‘teaser’ for the upcoming three-part docuseries Making Manson. Manson says in it: “There’s a whole part of my life that no one knows about.”

In the phone call he makes from prison, he goes on to say, “I lived in Mexico for a while. I went to Acapulco, stole a few cars. I got involved in things that were way over my head, man. Got involved in a few murders. I left my .357 Magnum in Mexico City and left a few dead people on the beach.”

According to Peacock, the docuseries covers twenty years of never-before-heard telephone conversations that Manson made while in custody. He talks about his crimes, his youth and the Manson Family.

The 1969 murders were intended to spark a race war, after which Manson would become the new leader of a changed America.

In 1969, Manson and his followers were arrested. At his trial in 1970, he was found to have carved a swastika into his own forehead. He died in captivity in November 2017.

Guns, spitting and arson

In prison in Corcoran, California, he allegedly violated prison rules “hundreds of times,” according to a 2017 article. The newspaper describes attacks on fellow detainees, possession of weapons, threats to guards, fights, spitting at guards, causing a flood and setting his mattress on fire.

The docuseries, which can be seen from Tuesday, also features former members of The Manson Family.
