The support allowance for informal caregivers will increase from January 2025, rising by 50.93 euros to a total of 560.19 euros. This update, now published in Diário da República, corresponds to an increase from 1 IAS (Social Support Index) to 1.1 IAS, thus implementing the increase from the current 509.26 euros to the new value.
This measure, approved by the ordinance signed by the Minister of Finance, Joaquim Miranda Sarmento, and the Minister of Labor, Solidarity and Social Security, Rosário Palma Ramalho, follows a Government strategy that aims to “value and support the role of the caregiver” , as stated in the official document.
The update of the informal caregiver support subsidy responds to the Government’s commitment to guaranteeing dignified conditions for informal caregivers, who play a crucial role in supporting vulnerable citizens, allowing them to remain in their family and community environment for as long as possible. The Executive also highlights that this decision is part of a “broader strategy to promote longevity and deinstitutionalization” by providing a subsidy that aims to reduce economic pressure on caregivers and encourage them to maintain care within the family.
With the reinforcement of this support, the importance of social protection and support for the well-being of families is highlighted, helping to create conditions that favor the continuity of informal care and, therefore, a more dignified and safe life for the most vulnerable citizens .
