Delegations of presidents who will participate in the G20 in Rio de Janeiro, next week, are on “alert” after the explosions that occurred at the headquarters of the Three Powers in Brasília, this Wednesday (14). Leaders from the world’s main economies arrive in Brazil to participate in the G20 Summit, which will take place in the capital of Rio de Janeiro on the 18th and 19th of November.

This Wednesday night, Brasília recorded explosions caused by Francisco Wanderley Luiz, who died in front of the headquarters of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) after an explosive exploded next to his body. In addition to the projectiles he threw at the location, the man also exploded his car, close to the Chamber of Deputies building.

Francisco was a candidate for councilor in 2020 for the Liberal Party (PL) in Santa Catarina and the Military and Civil Police of the Federal District are investigating whether there was political motivation behind last Wednesday’s actions. The situation, however, is already being closely monitored by the embassies of the countries that will participate in the G20 next week.

As found out by the People’s Gazette with members of the chancellery of G20 member countries, there is concern about the safety of the heads of state who arrive in Brazil next week. Despite the concern, there is, for now, no information on security reinforcement caused by the explosions, as the security of the presidents is already extremely reinforced.

“The US Embassy is in contact with Brazilian security authorities regarding the explosions reported in Brasília”, informed the representation of the US Foreign Ministry in Brazil.

Rio de Janeiro will also have a special security operation in the coming days, focused on the safety and protection of heads of state arriving in the city. In addition to the actions of the Armed Forces, Santos Dumont airport was also closed to receive only leaders participating in the G20 and their delegation. With commercial flights all directed to Galeão Airport.

Among the confirmed leaders are President Joe Biden (United States), Emmanuel Macron (France) and Xi Jinping (China). The meeting is also attended by Ursula Von der Leyen, president of the European Union. President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) will also receive in Brasília, the president of China for bilateral meetings and the president of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
